Ethical Blogger

Many are being questioned, what is ethical to post and what not? Sometimes, blogging can open up chances of getting yourself in trouble, especially in legal action. In Malaysia, defamation is one of the most common lawsuits that filed against bloggers.

According to the Malaysia Defamation Act 1957, a person who is deemed defamation in any action of libel or slander, which is a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation that eventually, injures a person's reputation.

Bloggers are liable for defamation — just as in other forms of communication. According to the Kuala Lumpur Bar chairman Lim Chee Wee, even bloggers write in a different medium, they’re still subject to the same defamation laws if offending statements are published. (Ibrahim, 2007 in News Straits Times).

Look at examples such as Jeff Ooi (Screenshots) and Rocky (Rocky's Bru) who have been sued for defamation by the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) and individuals of the company over the postings on their blogs.

I think that the legislation need to address the issue as soon as possible. Bloggers should exercise ethically and be responsible on what they post or else GET INTO TROUBLE!
